I'm a 40 year old male who was diagnosed with HSV 1 and HSV 2 about 15 years ago. I've had recurrent outbreaks of both, and they've become less and less frequent over time. A little over 3 weeks ago, I gave unprotected oral sex to another guy. We spoke about HIV status ahead of time and he said he tests every year (in December for his annual physical) and is negative. Exactly 2 weeks after the oral sex, I began to get the prodromal symptoms that I've gotten for years now: muscle pain in my thighs, upper arms, tingling in my penis, along with the feeling of a lump in my throat, and a tingle in my face and lips. I went to the doctor and got a refill of acyclovir. I'm now into my seventh day of this herpes recurrence and I can't help but worry that I've caught HIV. I haven't had any fever, sore throat, or diarrhea. I have had what looks like folliculitis on my trunk but I get them now and then anyways. Nonetheless, I can't shake the thought that this is somehow some version of ARS. Any words of advice to help calm me down are appreciated. I know that the worrying only makes herpes worse. Thanks!
