U can do several tests like Anti HIV, VDRL, Anti HCV, Anti HSV after three months of possible exposure.....
And another ques is that if hiv dna was not detected at 12 weeks thru pcr, then is there a possibility of antibodies getting formed after that? At 11 weeks antibody test, there were no antibodies. Can pcr give false negative at 12 weeks? I understand antibody test caan be false negative at 11 weeks.
The high sensitivity of PCR permits virus detection soon after infection and even before the onset of disease. Such early detection may give physicians a significant lead in treatment. The amount of virus ("viral load") in a patient can also be quantified by PCR-based DNA quantitation techniques.
Wrong, your are incorrect.
PCR is the most conclusive and reliable tool to detect HIV,,no need to worry neo215,u r safe...
No it can't be trusted and it's not a diagnostic test. You are not a neonate and when used on neonates born to infected mothers it is not the only test used to diagnose HIV.
So ur saying that pcr dna test result which is negative cant be trusted even after 12 weeks of exposure despite the company writing on the report that it is used for neonates and window period detection
He ordered the wrong test. Find a doctor that actually knows something about HIV and testing.
Heres my experience since I last wrote. I developed vigorous cough (with blood in sputum) and sore throat, right armpit lymph node remained swollen, and penis infection. Went to doc. He ordered complete blood count, thyroid function, sugar and chest xray. He checked and said that what I was thinking that its a lymph node, its actually fat deposit. Gave medicine for cough and syscan 150 for penis infection. Few days later, cough was ok but penis infection persisted. By this time, I was sure that I have hiv because im getting persistent penile yeast infection (read on internet that its an hiv symptom) coz my immune system is not strong to fight against it. And I thought that I had also developed tb which is a symptom of hiv. However, chest xray was ok but lymphocyte count was low (another pointer which I believed is an hiv symptom). He said that 1 dose of syscan 150 is enough to take care of minor penis infections, so I should see a dermatologist. I went to one, he saw my penis which had few white spots and white layer on it. He asked immediately if I had risky sexual exposure. On hearing me, he said that this hiv thing is playing on my mind and he immediately ordered hiv qualitative window period detection test (pcr) (i told him that I got negative at 11 weeks but he said that window period is 4 months, and pcr test will tell conclusively in window period whether its positiive or negative, then he will start treatment), he also ordered hsv 1 and 2 and vdlr. Hsv and vdlr came back negative in 2 days but hiv result took 8 days. These last 8 days were worst for me coz every moment I was thinking off my future. I was under tremendous stress and anxiety. Today I got the result and it said hiv 1 dna not detected and hiv 2 dna not detected. I cannot express how relieved I felt looking at that. I will never go to any prostitute again. I have a wife and a 4 yr old son. I was worried that if I am positive then my wife would also be, and my sons future will be vanished. Now I will remain true to myself. My. Penis infection has also cleared. Thanks to you rainlover, you helped me in overcoming my anxiety. I thought I should inform you about everything. :-)
In a week is when you need to test.
Thanks rainlover that really helped.. Will go and test again in a while
At 78 days you are 99.99999% home, just test again in a week and it will be final and you will receive another negative.Don't pay any attention to the other blood work,it has nothing to do with HIV.
I could not wait for 25 days and got tested yday, i.e. After 11 weeks 1 day or 78 days, and got negative results. This is because yday I got some infection on my penis, small red blisters with sticky itchy discharge. I froke out, but my mind is still not at rest. My wbc count was 8.5 on a range of 4 to 10 and lymphocyte count was 20 on range of. 20 to 40. Platelet was 162 on range of 150 to 400. All these seem on the edge.
25 days will fly by if you keep yourself busy and off the internet.
Thanks vance and rainlover, waiting for 3 months to get over and get tested. 25 days remaining.
Low risk but still a risk,an HIV test now would be an excellent indication of your status and at 12 weeks a final test will provide you with a 100% conclusive result. All the best.
Symptoms have nothing to do with HIV. You had a condom break and should test. 3 months is conclusive. Doubt from your exposure that you had much of a risk.
