It really depends on your symptoms, I assume your heart is fine when you are sitting or laying down. Any exertion will put an increased demand on your heart, the more exertion, the greater demand. This greater demand will require more oxygen to be delivered through your coronary arteries, to feed the heart muscle. Your blockage is quite significant, but there is a good chance medication will help. However, the medication can take a while for some people to adjust to, I found this with beta blockers. My whole body felt different and it was like I'd woken up inside a different body and had to get used to it. If medication doesn't work, then it's good news that they can stent the restriction because it means you don't have to go through bypass surgery which is obviously far more invasive. After my first stent I was amazed that I could go home after a couple of hours. One thing I'm sure your cardiologist has mentioned already and something you should be thinking about, are lifestyle changes to help prevent further blocking. Healthy diet, regular exercise (even 30 mins walking a day is great), keep your cholesterol under check, keep blood pressure under control and avoid stress as much as possible.
You have basically had all the experience of a stent with your angiogram. The only difference is, they will inflate a tiny balloon on the end of the wire to stretch the stent into place. While the balloon is inflated (seconds), you will most likely feel a chest pain because the blood supply is cut off during this time. As soon as the balloon is deflated, it's all over. Fingers crossed for the meds though.
I have several stents. In my heart and in an artery that supplies blood to one of my legs. I have not had any problems with the stents, and feel that this was the right thing for me to do. I am on the meds, also, for some other blockages. In addition, to these treatments I also made changes to my diet and now exercise. You should do well. Take care, Ally
