Answer to loopey

I have lupus also and was dx with PH, PAP pressure on echo last time was 46. I had a right and left heart cath done last Fri and my PAP was 27.5, checked 3 times. You do not need O2 and a good cardiology/pulmonary eval would be beneficial to you. I have lung and heart valve issues but not PH, thank God. I also have low O2 sats at night but once you are committed to O2, it is hard to get off. I am on Plaquenil as well. My rheumatologist did not settle for echocardiogram results. He insisted on the heart cath. It is the only way to ensure this dx is correct. Get evaluated by the other drs. There are specialists for PH also. You can be managed on meds but your PH is not severe enough to be medicated. I know, I've been in your shoes. Best wishes to you and hopefully, you will get proper management of your disease, starting with lupus itself.

Fortunately, the O2 levels were not below 88%. My PAP on RHC was 27, mildly elevated but vastly different from 46 mmHg by echocardiogram. Currently, my dr is not going to treat this and I am praying it will stay stable. It will be interesting to see what the next echo will show as I have to have them once a year to assess valve thickening, regurg problems. Thank you for your comment. All of my other organs have been assessed as well. I do have some mild pleural thickening and interstitial changes of the lungs. Lupus is a disease that loves to attack the lungs and heart as well as the kidneys. I am praying for remission and I'm nearly 60 so maybe I won't have to deal with too many serious conditions related to SLE.

Hi, pulmonary hypertension is defined as an increase in mean pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) ≥25 mmHg at rest as assessed by right heart catheterization. PH can be found in multiple clinical conditions. And the if the oxygen levels are chronically below 88% then oxygen therapy is indicated, as this might cause damage to vital organs. Regards.
