Any tips to increase HDL count

Hi

I am 31 yr male with weight of 183 lb (83 kg) and height 5'9" (173 cms). I had a chest and body pain after which I am being diagonsed with high cholestrol with following readings

Total Cholesterol - 234 mg/dl
Triglyceride -  166 mg/dl
HDL            -  28 mg/dl
LDL            -  122.20 mg/dl

BP - Normal (120/80)
Sugar Fasting - 92 mg/dl
TMT - Normal (No Abnormalities)

In above test results the most astonishing figure is very low HDL which push cholesteral ratios quite high and is a cause of concern. Could you please advice me few dietary alternatives and natural ways to increase HDL. Also can you please let me know what is an normal/healthy HDL range.

Thanks

I have a similar problem. Off the top of my head, the traditional advice is more aerobic exercise, less saturated and more monounsaturated fats (olive oil, almonds, avocados, etc), and a lot less refined carbohydrates (sugar and white flour). Oh, and losing weight if you are overweight.

I tell you what, my total cholestrol was 310, with HDL at 24.  My doctor prescribed me 1 40mg Zocor a day, and within 3 weeks my total cholestrol was 140 and my HDL was 52.  Sounds like you need to be on a light cholestrol med for a little while , till you get it under control.  I do not know what is a proper diet for this condtion, but if you are like me you want to eat what you want and forget about the cholestrol.  Get yourself on the pill for a little while, there are no real side effects. Of course you could stop eating all dairy products and meat, but where is the fun in that!! rofl
