chronic hypertension

I was discharged from the military in 1968 and upon discharge my BP was 159/90. I have had HPP since and have been on medication for years. The military should have recognized this and treated me after dischage, does anyone agree. Thanks

Yes, BP at or above 140/90 mmHg over a period of time can/will cause CAD.

Thanks Ken, could my hypertension have contributed to my diagnosis of CAD?

If your blood pressure was consistently higher than the normal 120/80, there should be treatment to help prevent cardiovascular disease.  Years ago blood pressure that was 139/90 was not considered high enough to treat and was referred to as pre-hypertension BB and watch, but recommended diet, exercise, etc.
The medical community now considers any pressure higher than 120/80 should be treated.
If you PB was over 139/90 in 1968 consistently, there should have been some intervention.  Doctors acknowledge that BP could be higher than normal when visting and having a test, but there should have been a followup exam or at least provide instructions to how BP can be reduced with the proper diet, etc.

Thanks for you question and sharing your experience.  Take care,

Ken
