Biventricular Hypertrophy
My son is 3 1/2 years old and has numerous medical conditions following a very premature birth at 22 weeks gestation. We have just learnt that he has Biventricular Hypertrophy. Could somebody please explain what this means we are being refered to a specialist but have to wait for an appointment.

Biventricular hypertrophy indicates both left and right lower chambers (ventricles) of the heart are enlarged.
This condition may or may not be symptomatic. As it relates to pediatrics most cases of hypertrophic hearts return gradually to a normal size in the first months after birth. Or it may be non-pathological, an anomaly, and the system conpensates for the defect.
