Heart spasms

Hi.  I need to know why have I been getting heart spasms?  They are so hard that I can't move for 15 seconds or breathe from the front to the back.  I have had a ecg done as well as a eeg and they came back normal.  What else do I need to do?  I am also doing the deep breathing exercises to help and sometimes I get them while I do them.  It has gotten to the point of a heavy chest then tingling in the arms and hands.  Can you help me out?  I would gratly appreciate it.    Thank You

Hello there.  Yes, artery spasms can be very debilitating. I can't do anything but stop, take the nitro and wait.  Last month I ended up in the ER with them.  It felt as though I was having another heart attack, but my cardiac enzymes didn't show that.  The monitors did pick up the vasospasms and that was scary.  The alarms would go off and the lines were all over the screen. As far as treatment, they say the calcium channel blockers work well, but they do not go away completely.  I now have the spasms daily, just not the intensity I had before.  I take a CCB in the morning and evening.  I don't think they know enough about these yet.  I tried the deep breathing, but I do not recommend that.  I would get to a point of lightheadedness and feel faint.  Let me know how you are doing.  I know several of us in here could start a support group.  The spasms are painful and scary.  Ally

My heart spasms have subsided for now.  The next one that I get, I will use my nitro.

One more thing I forgot.  A poster told me her doctor advised her to take magnesium and vitamin E, so I have added that also.

Lots of help on cardiac microvascular dysfunction forum. Joanincarolina has helped me alot and I have had recent news which you will find there after 11 months of the scarey sharp pains with all tests showing nothing till this past week. I am hopeful that my new stents will do the trick but it will be awhile until we know

I see my Cardiologist in July and I will certainly be asking a lot more questions about spasms.
Strange thing with mine is that I don't get chest pain, just a terrible throat discomfort, like a strong grip. The calcium channel blockers seemed to work great at first, for a few weeks and are now gradually losing their effect.

In the search box at the top of the page you can look for people that way too. I would also recommend you talk to joanincarolina. She has lots of experience and information about vasospasms. They are very painful and hard to diagnose but it can be done.

I do have the nitro spray and will use it when the next one comes.  Legs, feet and arms are swollen.

Hi
The answer to that one is no.  What else can I do?  It hurts like a s.o.b.
