Hi ava244, I am 21 years old, female. I have recently (for 4 months) been experiencing the same problem. I am overweight for my height but I wouldn't say obese.
I have come to the conclusion that it may be Meralgia P, but every website I have researched it on says that it is worse with exercise and walking, and relieved with rest, but mine is the complete opposite, it only occurs when I am lying down.
I've noticed that your post was a while ago now and was just wondering if it has gotten any better, if so, what did you find helped treat it? Zoe
Meralgia paresthetica is a condition characterized by tingling, numbness and burning pain in the outer part of your thigh. The cause of meralgia paresthetica is compression of the nerve that supplies sensation to the skin surface of your upper leg.
Tight clothing, obesity or weight gain are common causes of meralgia paresthetica. However, meralgia paresthetica can also be due to local trauma or from a disease, such as diabetes.
In most cases, meralgia paresthetica can be relieved with conservative measures, such as wearing looser clothing. In severe cases, treatment may include medications to relieve discomfort or, rarely, surgery.
I would try this first, it's fairly common.
