FDA alert on digoxin

I just received an email on this and wasn't sure about how to bring it up or whatever but; I think it is important:

Actavis Totowa (formerly known as Amide Pharmaceutical, Inc.) recalls all lots of Bertek and UDL Laboratories Digitek (digoxin tablets, USP) as precaution (April 25)
Mon, 28 Apr 2008 09:50:00 -0500

Actavis Totowa LLC, a United States manufacturing division of the international generic pharmaceutical company Actavis Group, is initiating a Class I nationwide recall of Digitek (digoxin tablets, USP, all strengths) for oral use. The products are distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc., under a "Bertek" label and by UDL Laboratories, Inc. under a "UDL" label. The voluntary all lot recall is due to the possibility that tablets with double the appropriate thickness may have been commercially released. These tablets may contain twice the approved level of active ingredient than it appropriate.

after speaking with the supervisor at the insurance company they are going to do an override to allow the lanoxin to be filled... but of course he said it may not go through until tomorrow morning..  luckily her pharmacy will give her what she needs.    what amazes me here is that had i had not seen this post today i would not have known about this...   this is a class 1 recall  there is nothing on my local news stations broadcasts or on any of their websites..  how was i to learn about this as she is at the beginning of three month supply???    i spoke with a reporter at the third station i called (the other two blew me off) and she was amazed at how little she was able to find on this recall.   what about people who don't have access to a computer to find out about it as i did??    it is very sad and i thank Me967 for letting us know about this important recall

do not take digitek.. call your dr and have them write a new script for digoxin or lanoxin...  there is a possibility that your dr may want a new dig level before starting new script...   amber will have go today for new level and has been advised not to take new script until dig level is in             thanks again            dawn

My wife tried to fill my prescription for Digitek today and couldn't because of the recall.  The pharmacists checked to see if there was a alternative.  Unfortunately the drug used in place of Digitek is manufactured by the same company and has been recalled too.  He went so far as to call my cardiologist which I am scheduled to see today anyway and now I have to have the blood test to check for toxicity levels of Digoxin.  Not a big deal in the end but it makes one wonder sometimes.

I hit the button to fast to post.  On the FDA site they have a place where you can be notified of any recalls listed; "after the dog food recalls" I had put my email address in to be notified of any updated recalls and never got off the list.  Its hard to believe all the things that get recalled and never brought to attention to the people.  It's free for anyone to get on.

Just thought I would pass it along.
