Foot Trauma

I recently had surgery to put a screw in my foot after a Jones Fracture.  Since the surgery, I have noticed that when I stand upright (on crutches of course) that all the blood goes rushing down my leg which causes minor swelling and a distinct discoloration (more of a darker brown color) than the other leg - mainly below the knee.  My calf and foot will throb temporarily as the blood goes down my leg after sitting or lying down for awhile.  I got a little freaked out thinking that I might've had a blood clot which was preventing the blood from circulating back up.  I had an ultrasound on the bad leg to check for blood clots which came up negative.  Any ideas why this might be occuring or should I get more/different tests for any clots?

Hi, I can't tell you exactly what this may be , I allso had a Jones fracture and it took over 7 months to heal. I have had lots of problems with my right foot in particular with two surgeries in less than 7 months and a third, a fusion was scheduled till I had this heart attack thing. Anyway, there is an excellent internet site called. Myfootshop.com   where they address nothng but foot problems, foot and ankle surgery, etc. I have posted on there for a longtime till I had this heart thing, and Now I am waiting till I have my foot surgery and I will post there again. There is an excellent dr. there known as Dr. Oster
who can answer your questions as well as feedback from other people going through the same thing. Try giving a post. Sometimes it may take a few days for the dr. to post as he is the ONLY DR. THERE, but he will get back to you, iN the meantime, someone else may know what is going on. Good luck.               Flluffypurrcat

What does the doctor think is causing the symptoms?  Could it just be that the blood is pooling and then when you stand it disperses?  Sorry, my answer is not more medical, but it's the only thing that came to mind.

Is a leg ultrasound similar to a carotid artery U/S?  Can the doctor see the actual blood flow?
