Pacemaker modes heart block
Now at age 81 I have been a serious aerobic exerciser for 37 years. For a long time my deeply resting pulse could get from the 40's down into the 30's. I continue to walk/jog without any symptom of anything wrong at all.
Recently a resting EKG got the doctors to tell me I had a stage 2 heart block and should get a pacemaker right away, which I declined.
Today at the end of an uphill portion of my walk I carefully checked my pulse and found that my heart was giving me a 90 beat rate. This indicates that my heart is responding to my needs. It is not staying at a resting 33 beats per minute with no signal boosting the rate up. As long as this goes this way I don't see the need for a pacemaker.
Dear sports cardiologists and all, what do you think?
