Panic attack

Is it normal for a hypertensive person to suddenly lose sleep and wake up with heart palpitations, shortness of breath, feeling hot and in panic condition? The feelings subside a few minutes after taking cold water or cold bath or emptying the bowels.

Hi There,

Ive just been looking through this page and it seems as though u are just having a bad aniexty attack.
I've suffered with them for years now, they can be triggered off by anything. I often have them in my sleep...I wake up and feel shakey (like i get when i am hungry) my heart races soooo fast that i feel its going to explode, I feel extremely restless, like im about to have a 'fit' type of feeling! and i feel like i need to stretch!
I have palpitations constantly, Im on propandadol tablets. I had a ECG scan last summer and they said everything with my heart was fine, i just suffered from aniexty. It sounds like thats what u are having. I mean, im no doctor or anything but symtoms do sound the same.
Hope u feel better soon

Keely

Thanks for your comment. No I don't cough during the attack. I experience this feeling sometimes when I have constipation, after waking up from a few bottles of lager beer or when hungry though not severe in the latter condition. I always get back to normal after moving my bowels or drinking water. The experience can convince anyone that a seizure, collapse or death is imminent. The attack starts with what feels like a heat wave inside followed by shortness of breath, heart palpitations, restlessness and tight feeling. One Doctor suggested that I throw two cups of cold water in the face whenever it happens. Another one said the heart electricity malfunctions at times and is then corrected by moving bowels, exercise and other deliberate muscle movements. At least both had a name for it.

Do you have a cough when this happens?  It could be fluid backing up into the lungs.  Check with your doctor to see if you need an EKG to see if there has been a change.
