Hi, I had an interesting experience with a cardioligist who has replaced the one I have been seing for several years.
I take 300 mg of Toprol XL per day.
We had a discussion about reducing the dosage for various reasons. I have been on that dosage for a couple of years. I have been on Toprol for about 10 years total.
Anyway once we discussed the new dosage goal based on the readouts from my tests he decided that it would be ok to go down from 300 mg to 200 mg......but he had me drop to that dosage in just one day. I was vey concerned because i had called my nurse and needed a new prescription.....there was no going down slowly discussion like reducew 25 mg per week or anything.
Well, it sent me into afib and so I just had a cardioversion to deal with that.
Anyone every drop Troprol that fast?
One issue that came up was my excersize tolerance. I have no trouble riding a bike at the gym on level 12 for 45 minutes to an hour without getting out of breath. I normaly can hike and do whatever I want at the gym.
While I was on the 200 mg for about a week and in afib it did not create too much of a problem with excersize but it did affect me as would be expected.
When went back up to 300 mg the following week after having been on 200 mg and in afib, it felt like I was on 400 mg....my excersize tolerance went out the door. I could walk up the same hill from the parking lot as work.
I have had a cardioversion and I am still on 300 mg and they have looked at my heart and found no blockage, no issues, no EKG noise, no problems but I still am having problems....I am better being out of afib...
It seems building up to 300 mg over the years and then dropping to 200 mg and then going back was a mistake. My heart seems to have a "memory" and thinks 200 was the right dose.
I will be speaking with my cardiologist again soon but it is sure odd.
