heart valve leakage

I went to the heart doc today to get my results from an echocardiogram and my stress test. The stress test came back normal but he said looking at the echo results i had 2 small leakages in one of the valves. I dont know why, but i didnt even bother to ask him what this meant because he said it was nothing to worry about. can anyone tell me more about this and if it can get worse?

Hi Kay,  May I ask a few questions about your sisters condition? I would greatly appreciate it.

How long ago was she diagnosed.
What were her symptoms to cause the investigation.
How is she doing now and have echos revealed the problem is stable?

Thank you so much in advance.

they will keep an eye on you and see you on a yearly basis probably, it if the right side they leave things but if its the left they may treat it just depends on howbad it is, but the doc says dont worry, my sister has a leaky valve in left ventrical and it just meant that blood flowed back into the other chamber

Not uncommon to have some leakage of heart valves.  Usually it happens when the leaflets that close over the valve opening don't seal the opening of a one-way flow of blood through the valve. When the heart contracts the pressure in the chamber may cause some back flow leakage.  Not considered medically significant and almost never progesses or cause any symtoms.

There could be some calcification of the leaflets and/or orifice of the valve...don't know your age but that could be the underlying cause.
