I can tell you my bp is really low to but I guess its ok, mine is between 110/60 to 95/50 , I feel tired now and than other than that I have no problems with it that low so far.
Since you have HBP I would say that is too low for you which is why the nurse told you to decrease it. I'd take the dose you were told by the nurse to take until you hear otherwise. This is too low when you have a history of HBP.
Thanks for the reply. I don't feel bad with my diastolic number running in the low 50's but it does make me nervous when it is in that range and especially when it hits 45!
I am taking the 50 mg dose of Toprol XL in the morning as the nurse said. She never called me back Friday so guess I'll be on the phone Monday to see what the doctor said. I just checked my BP and it was 115/51 Pulse 58.
I don't feel bad at this number at all. At least I'm not having the fast heart rate and only a skipped beat here and there. Maybe the few days of faster heart rate and skipped beats every 5 or so beats was just one of those things. that I will have to deal with.Maybe my thyroid levels are off too since I take Levothryroxine after a total thyroidectomy a little over a year ago. Waiting to hear from my Endo too.
Yes I would definitely call back on Monday. I have had that happen and after a few days of continuing on the med it started to make me feel like I was in a tunnel and the noises around me sound very far off and I felt faint. Now keep in mind that I continued taking the medication not knowing that it was dropping my bp too low. It's good that you caught it very soon. Toprol xl is an extended release medication and you don't want the bp dropping too low on that type of med.
just took mine its 99/58 and I feel fine. as long as your not passing out my cardio dr says its ok. I take a very small bĂȘtes blocker twice a day I take timilol 5mg in morning another 5mg at nite so mines not a lot and not sure if it last all day till next dose but mine is really been low last 2-3 weeks but dr says no worries. so I keep taking meds and keep living
Agreed, it's only an issue if you heart disease or have symptoms of low blood pressure like being dizzy. My BP this evening was 103/55, but part of that is due to having worked out about 2 hours earlier.
Yesterday (Sunday) I decided to try my original dose of 25mg daily since I was still running in the 50's (diastolic). I randomly checked my BP several times and the lowest was 115/55 Pulse 60 and highest 136/55 Pulse 58. This morning (4:00am) BP was 118/55 Pulse 53. Like I say I don't feel bad at all.
Also, per my cardio, an Echo done a year ago was fine and an EKG on 8/1/13 was normal.
I'll post again after I see what I found out today.
One more thing.....does anyone know how long Toprol XL actually stays in ones system?
Toprol has a half life of 7 hours which means after 7 hours half the dose is out of your system. After another 7 hours the remaining amount is cut in half again and so on until it's gone.
