Passing out from soda?

Last night my wife and I was on our way home from the store and while I was driving I took a drink of sprite. Then I had a pain go from my throat go down to my stomach and I passed out cold for about 10 seconds while driving. We was in a accident but thankfully everyone is okay. But how did this happen the doctors found nothing wrong when I got to the emergency room and I felt fine after I woke up. We need answers soon because this cannot be happening this is so scary to go threw. If anyone knows anything regarding this or knows what else could cause this let us know.

You probably stimulated your Vagus Nerve (google it--it's not 'Vegas') with the cold drink.

In some people, this nerve can be stimulated by the darndest things, and the result is that the heart rate slows, your blood pressure drops, and you faint.  There's some discussion right here:

You probably should report it to your doc, but in general, the condition is not dangerous--except for this:  when you suddenly faint, you can hit your head on the way down and hurt yourself badly that way.

The treatment for vasovagal fainting from cold drinks (you can google that, too) is to AVOID cold drinks, and certainly not take large gulps of them.
