Pls Help - Low LVEF=25%

I have recently been diagnosed with low LVEF of 25% and my doctor has put me on carbidilol 6.25mg BD. Can someone pls help me understand how serious is my condition and what can help me improve it. I am an otherwise healthy person and able to walk 3-4kms at a stretch without fatigue and have never had any heart attack so far.

I believe you are referring to carvedilol (coreg).  That is a beta blocker that helps control an irregular heart rate and helps reduce any resistance the heart has to pump against by relaxing the blood vessels.  About 6 years ago, I had a low EF and and enlarged heart (left ventricle).  The enlargement was due to high blood pressure and the enlargement reduced the EF to below 29% (heart failure range < 30%).  Medication return my heart to regular size and EF is currently at 59% (normal is 50 to 70% and represents the amount of blood pumped with each heartbeat).

As ed states there should be more information to help assess the underlying cause and parameters related to heart size and abnormal wall movement if any.  The problem is almost always due to impaired heart wall movement (hypokenesis).  An echocardigram will show any impairment. Seriousness depends if the condition is acute or chronic, but there is treatment available to help.

What have they said is the underlying cause? You are certainly on a good beta blocker which is rated about the best for CHF. Do you have any echo results giving any information to chamber dilation etc?
