sticky feeling in chest

This sounds weird but for the last few days I have felt a "sticky" feeling in middle of left chest at arm pit level.  It does not hurt, it feels like there is tape or like if you have juice on your shirt and it sticks to the skin rather than moving.  I don't know how else to describe it.  It comes and goes with seemingly no relationship to exertion.  It feels like it is right on or just below the skin in an area about an inch high and 2 inches wide.  Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Because of the way the nervous system is wired, any sensation you feel on or just below the skin of the chest (and even in the chest muscles) is *not* heart related, so you can rest easy about that.

What you're describing sounds like a sensory nerve that's a little irritated for some reason.  Technically, the word is 'paresthesia,' which refers to funny sensations for which there is no obvious explanation such as an injury.

However, they can be caused by all sorts of weird, minor things like a bad sleeping position or something so slight as pressure from a car seat belt or backpack.  Nerves just hate prolonged pressure on them.

If the sensation isn't too disturbing or painful, I'd probably wait a week or maybe two to see if it got better.  If not, then I'd report it to my doctor for a little more investigation.
