Rheumatic Heart Disease

I am 19. When I was seven years old, I got Rheumatic Fever which led to me getting Rheumatic Heart Disease.  I got Rheumatic Fever AGAIN when I was twelve years old, which worsened my condition.  In 2011 I had open-heart surgery and got my aortic root and aortic valve replaced by a porcine valve.  This coming summer I am to get my mitral valve replaced by another porcine valve.  Does anyone else have Rheumatic heart disease?  If so, how many surgeries have you had?  Is it any better/worse than the first open-heart surgery?  I am so scared for this coming up surgery.

Thanks for responding, however...it wasn't quite what I was looking for.  My surgeon and cardiologist have made me aware of what you have told me already.  Thank you so much though!
Have a good night!

Hello and hope you are doing well.
In rheumatic heart disease mitral valve disease is the most common cardiac problem seen. The mitral valve is laden with heavy deposits of calcium, which may disrupt the normal function of the valve. The valve may fail to open completely while calcium deposits can also prevent the valve from closing completely, leading to mitral regurgitation .It is a progressive disease and the valve problems will deteriorate over time and surgery may be needed to replace them. It may be important to replace these valves before permanent damage ocuurs. If you are anxious and concerned it is best to discuss it with your cardiologist and get your doubts clarified. I hope it helps.
Best wishes and kind regards!
