Side effects of blood pressure medications

My dad was just diagnosed with high blood pressure about a week ago.  He has never been on any type of medication before and is now taking three different medications to control his blood pressure.  In the last week he has had four episodes of extreme dizziness and difficulty with his speech.  This happens about one hour after eating lunch and about six to seven hours after taking his pills.  Is it possible his medication is causing this problem?  How long might it take for his body to become used to his medicine?

If he is having trouble with his speech I would certainly bring this to his doctor's attention immediately.  I am on 3 different meds for blood pressure, heart rhythm, and heart rate and I haven't had anything other than drowsiness and thinning hair.  Has he been tested for other things also? He isn't diabetic is he?  Dizziness is possible, but the trouble with his speech needs the doctor's evaluatioin.

I take 3 meds for high blood pressure and am age 60. I have been on them for a long time, unlike your Dad.  My body has adjusted to them overtime, so I am thinking your Dad will adjust to them. Some blood pressure meds can make you dizzy when you first start taking  them.  I bet they gave your Dad a beta blocker which is very good for blood pressure, but initially they can make you a little dizzy and light headed.  You state that it is usually 6 to7 hours after taking the pills that he starts to have symptoms.  That will more than likely improve with time.  Just check with the Dr. if things don't improve. Best of luck.
