Ache after bypass surgery

Has anyone out there had a dull ache in the chest (sub-sternum) 6 months after bypass surgery?  It's not continuous, and it doesn't correlate directly with exercise.  I'm pretty sure it's not another blocked artery, because I just had a stress radionuclide test and another heart cath (due to my job), and both showed no blockages or blood flow difficulties.  Do the bypassed arteries cause pain as they wither and die (possible dumb question?)?  Anybody got a clue?  Anybody had the same problem?

hi, my mom had bypass surgery almost 10 years ago. it seems to me that she complained  of an ache in her chest for awhile afterwards. they do open your chest really wide. she's been very healthy since the surgery, thank goodness. her dr. said it may be the wire left in her chest to bring the sternum back together. it can be removed if it bothers you. i'm no expert on this because i have'nt had the surgery, i'm just going by what my mom went through, it took her a long time to heal and quit having pain from the surgery. i would'nt think it would be the bypassed arteries withering and causing pain, would'nt they be (dead) very soon after the surgery? i'll ask my mom to refresh my memory about what she went through as far as the pain 6 months after and let you know . remar
