enlargement of ascending aorta
77 year old man, 150 lbs., history of chest pain, coronary calcium score of 12.21 ascending aorta is enlarged to 44mm. Is this considered an aneurysym? What is normal for a person of this size? left foot and ankle stayed grossly swollen. MRI stated that COPD is "suspected". Any thoughts on this?
Statistics indicte asymptomatic ascending aortic aneurysms be resected at a size of 5.0-5.5 cm. Sometimes there is a bicuspid valve (anomaly), then the ascending aorta should be icuspid valve, the ascending aorta should be resected when it is 4.5 cm in diameter. Symptomatic aneurysms should be resected regardless of size...has the chest pain been diagnosed for other than an aorta aneurysm?
