heart problems due to high blood pressure

december 23, 2008 i was at the carpentry shop and that time i feel so hot, little dizziness, exploding chest pain. at the hospital the nurse got my BP and it is 160/80. the nurse said it is too high for me because im just 19 y/o.... i stayed 5 days in the hospital because my BP is going up and down.starting that day i get out to the hospital, i always visit the hospital 3 times a week because my chest pain is still there but my ECG is normal according to the doctor. i was scared at that time, so, the doctor requested me for 2 d echo and it was found out that it is a heart problem a trivial mitral valve regurgitation. im tired of suffering chest pain because of heart problem until now but i know there is a cure for this i never had before... Is there a possibility that high blood pressure can cause like that kind of heart problem?
is there a cure to my heart problem?

Your high systolic and normal diastolic reading is due to mitral regurgitation. In more serious case your systolic can go up whilst your diastolic can drop.

This has been explained to me many times by my different heart specialist and past lecturers.

I am only 28 and i have elevated systolic and lower diastolic ; which is due to anxiety (which is another reason). I have past history of mitral valve prolapse but it has healed.

Your doctor is absolutely right. Cut that stuff out of your diet. Especially anything with caffine in it. Carbonated drinks can cause havoc on the digestive system and so can acidic fruits and vegatables. They can all cause heartburn so bad that you would think you are having a heart attack. That happens a lot more than you think. Trivial regurg should not be causing you problems with dizziness, it's not a big enough problem to cause you that symptom. There are a lot of things that can cause you to be dizzy. Simply having a wax build up deep in the ear can cause problems like that. Too low of a blood sugar can cause you to be dizzy; those are two of the most common problems. When people become dizzy from heart problems it is because their heart is beating so fast that the heart chamber doesn't have time to fill up with enough blood to keep the body satisfied, before it empties and refills. If your heart was beating that fast, you would certainly know it and in your case, you still would not have 'true' heart related chest pain. You aren't old enough for that yet. Take care

thnx a lot for explaining this to me this help me a lot.. youve mentioned about Regurgitation simply means the backflow of blood is going through the mitral valve. maybe thats why sometimes i feel a little bit dizziness... I havent seen a gastroenterologist. Ive mention to my doctor about my chest pain he said that I minimize drinking soft drinks, coffee, souring fruits, alcoholic drinks  because he mentioned that this can cause chest pain that lead to gastritis.....

Maybe i can now minimize carrying heavy objects so that my little heart problem will not turn into a big problem.. thnx a lot and more power to you...

In essence your heart structure is normal. You have a little bit of mitral reguritation which means a small amount of blood backs up through that valve. This is nothing to worry about. Regurgitation simply means the backflow of blood is going through the mitral valve.. I can tell you that gastroenteritis can cause chest pains, sometimes severe enough to make a patient think they are having a heart attack. Have you seen a gastroenterologist? Cardiology is my field and I'm well versed in it, I'm trying to help you to understand heart disease at least to some degree.

thnx a lot for understanding...  I stop visiting the hospital last MAY because i dont want to hear from a doctor that i am a hypochondriac.. i have with me the results of echo....
it says here that....

normal left ventricular dimension and wall thickness with good wall motion and contractility .
normal left and right atria, right ventricle, main pulmonary artery and aortic root dimension.
the anterior mitral valve leaflet is thickened and prolapsed into the left atrium during systole.
structurally normal aortic, tricuspid and pulmonic valves
no pericardial effusion or intracavitary thrombus noted.

DROPPLER: Mosaic flow across the mitral, tricuspid and pulmonic valves
                            Normal pulmonary arterial pressure

CONCLUSION: Anterior mitral valve prolapse with trivial mitral regugitation
                              trivial tricuspid regurgitation
Normal pulmonary arterial pressure with pulmonic regurgitation
Normal left ventricular dimension with good contractility and
                              adequate systolic function

I hope that you can explain this to me because I didnt understand some of this... I have a hospital record of acute gastroenteritis and i think this where chest pain starts......

There are a lot of things that can cause chest pain including the muscles. Trivial regurg is not going to be one of the problems that cause chest pain. Thousands and thousands of people have this and have no problems with it. Most people don't even know they have it. There are two main things that cause chest pain: Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) which you are way to young to have. It takes 20 years to build up enough plague in the coronary arteries to cause chest pains, you said you were only 19; the second problem would involve structural problems with the heart such as the thickness of the walls; you would have known about that, not only through the echo but by how you were able to function in daily life. If you are in ANY kind of pain, your BP will automatically raise so the BP of 160/80 makes perfect sense and can actually be perfectly normal under the circumstances that you have descibed. Go live your life and enjoy it, there are too many out there who would gladly exchange places with you.
