All antidepressants feel strange for the first few days. Then you start to get used to them. You probably aren't used to relaxing, which the meds are trying to make you do. I wouldn't fight it, I would give it a chance. If they do work, and make you feel more relaxed, it will be good for you to try and recognise the difference and learn from it. Maybe eventually try to achieve those feelings without the medication long term. I'm sure you know the effects of years of high blood pressure, so I would keep to your Doctors advice and give them a try. I know it's difficult, but try not to linger your thoughts on the meds, this can build your anxiety up too, and it will end up fighting the effect of the meds.

I think it is the medication.I think you never will feel as you did before. The antidepressant drug treatment can be beneficial, but not for everybody and not the only answer. There are other effective treatment options .You should ask yourself if your depression severe enough to justify drug treatment? Can you tolerate unwanted side effects? And they have many. What about therapy and self therapy?  If you must chose the antidepressant hope it will work out for you, but do not hesitate to say no if you don’t feel good to take it.
