Before there can be an answer associated with your wife's condition more information is needed. The 20% indicates the heart is pumping 20% of the blood received from the lungs and normal is 50-70%. The reduction of the heart's pumping ability indicates the heart's wall has lost some contractility strength.
DCM indicates the heart's left ventricle has enlarged and it seems that is causing a decrease in strength. It is very unusual for the doctor(s) to comment it is a hope less case, but the prognoses depends on the underlying cause. The cause of an enlarged heart (HCM) can be congenital, due to a viral or bacteria that has damaged the heart muscle, heart's structure abnomaly, etc. Has the underlying cause been given by your wife's doctor's?
Thanks for your question, and if you have any followup questions you are welcome to respond. Take care and wish your wife well going forward. .

If your wife's reports provide impressions, echo results as related to heart wall dimensions, any anomalies, what were the tests and abnormalities noted, if any. That would help provide some informational feedback. Sorry attached information is not acceptable and does not clear the computer's protocol.
just to help rahul_sharma50 a bit here .
The report states.....
Left Ventricle shows mild dilation of the cavity/normal wall thickness
severe wall hypokinesis. Severe systolic disfunction, EF 20%
Left Atrium normal.
Right ventricle has dilated cavity/systolic disfunction/enlarged right atrium.
All four valves appear normal
It appears both sides of the heart are affected.
Thanks for your input. Helpful information.
My Aunt is in problem. yesterday i received the ECO report and the report says as follows:
LVEF 20%
dilated cavity
normal wall thickness
generalised wall hypokinesia
server systolic dyfunction with ejection fraction 20%
adequate diastolic compliance - left ventricular
mild enlargement of left atrium
adequate right ventricular mass
a small pericardial effusion seen all around the heart
all valves are normal
My brother has DCM LVEF 10% and MRI report shows medulla. What to do plz suggest.
