back pressure and heart

my 81 year old husband had angioplasty and a stent placed last August. He remains active and can do most of the activities he could perform before, snow blowing, chopping wood, lifting, etc.
He does get a strong pressure or discomfort in the middle of his back increasingly often. It can happen at any time, many times when he wakes up in the morning, but it can hit when he's walking around the house, driving, really any time. He is also developing increasing PAD along with its many symptoms.
Can the back pressure be angina and would it be irregular angina, the more serious kind? He's on Plavix and Lipitor.
Any other things to do?
Thanks,
b
