right ventricular hypertrophy

I went to the Doctors because I was planning to get back into sports after christmas so I thought I'd better get my blood pressure etc checked, especially due to the fact I had bad palpatations during the night after having a few beers.  The doctor checked my blood pressure and listened to my chest and found everything to be ok but he sent me for an ecg and blood tests just incase.  The ecg came back normal the first time the nurse did the test, after that she done another test and it said i had a right ventricular hypertrophy.  She done another two tests and they came back as right ventricular hypertrophy.  She insisted i dont leave the building until i seen my doctor, he said he wasnt convinced it was a right ventricular hypertrophy and i should come back next week after my blood tests come back.  My blood tests came back normal so he is sending me to see a specialist to determine exactly what was is wrong with me.  Could it be that there is nothing wrong with me and the machine was wrong?  I have a smallish frame for a guy so i thought maybe this influenced the test?  I also done alot of exercise the night before i got the test could this have also gave it a false positive?
Thanks in advance for your help,

Gordon.

What is the outcome of this? Did you ever have any more tests to see if in fact you do have RVH? One of my EKG's said this and i'm absolutly terrified.

Can having RVH cause a visible sign on your epigastric area? Seeing your heartbeat just below your ribs on the left side of your chest?

Medication, drugs, alcohol can influence an EKG tracing.

Yes, mine was fine, the cardiologist had a more "experienced" tech re-take the EKG and it came back normal, just like all my others. It was just a lead that was placed incorrectly on the first one.

Sorry.  What I meant was she done 4 ekg tests. One came up fine the others came up saying i had a problem.  Is your heart ok then?  Thanks for your advice.

An EKG is not the most reliable way to diagnos RVH. This could simply be a lead lacement issue during the EKG that gave a fales reading, this happened to me. They will need to do an echo and stress test to be sure, but I would not get too worked up yet. WHne you mention she did other tests, were they diferent than an EKG? If she did an echo than that would be more accurate an would require further investigation.

Good Luck,

Jon
