It is doubtful that anyone at all can answer that question Mia and your husband is in the best place possible to take care of all of these issues.  You need to let the docs do their job, concentrate on just being there to support your husband and try not to think about things like that.  Trust me its better he's in a hospital dealing with this where there are all of the right elements to get him through this then being at home trying to fight this off himself.  Atrial Fibrillation is easily taken care of....there are the super family of antibiotics to get rid of the infection in his artery pretty fast and i am sure they have the congestive heart failure under control while he is there...this is a question you should ask of his doctor if he/she feels your husband is at risk or if they feel they have a handle on it...good luck to you Mia

>>>>> Treatment may require use of antibiotics, if a bacterial infection is the cause, and medications to relieve pain and inflammation. Lifestyle changes, including increased rest and a low-salt diet, may be part of the treatment.

I had congested heart failure about 7 years ago, and treatment has provided relief without any symptoms for that many years.  Weak heart muscle that effect the contractility of the pumping chamber is almost always the problem and can have many causes.  There is a common thread for cause and that is the heart cells do not get sufficient oxygenated blood because of a reduction of cardiac output (impaired heart wall movement) and prognosis would be based on the cause:  I have listed a few that may be relevent

•Weakened heart muscle.  Cause can be enlarged left ventricle, and/or heart muscle disease.
•Toxic exposures, like alcohol or cocaine can damage heart muscle.
•Infections
•High blood pressure that results in thickening of the heart muscle (left ventricular hypertrophy) will impair heart wall movement (hypokinesis).

•Pericardial disease, such as pericardial effusion (a large collection of fluid around the heart in the space between the heart muscle and the thick layer of pericardium surrounding the heart) and/or a thickened pericardium, which does not allow the heart to fill properly.

If the infection is controlled, and there is no serious heart muscle damage, your husband can make a complete recovery.

If you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.  Thanks for your question.  Take care.
