what the heck is ASHD???

Ive been posting alot lately...48 yr old female with chest discomfort ( burning) that began after the swine flu in November..was horrid at first now is slight but still there. I had CT angiogram( non-invasive) that was "inconclusive" so had Nuclear Perfusion stress test which showed an area (1) small "abnormality"...my cardio gave me the choice ..cardiac cath..or..work on risk factors and take a wait and see approach. I opted for that..and am now on Crestor for cholesterol..and just now got back from signing up for a weight loss/exercise program through the hospital here. Im excited to start it--since we already eat right-( no saturated fats..lots of veggies etc) i think I will lose the weight ( im obese) when starting this supervised weight loss program.
My question is..when they did the intake paperwork..my cardiologist had already sent her info on me...and she asked about my diagosis as ASHD. The woman doing the intake was some sort of nurse...but she didnt know what ASHD was..she told me a hole in my heart!?!?!? I came home, and looked it up on Google..and it states its Arteriosclerotic Heart Disease. I was NOT told I had this. I was told I have "areas of plaque"..and "areas of narrowing" in my arteries...but this? No... and what does that mean? Whats ARTERIO...versus Athero...???
Help!

"Areas of plaque" and "areas of narrowing" in your coronary arteries means the same thing as atherosclerotic heart disease (ASHD).  ASHD isn't anything beyond what you already know you have.  It's just a short way of summarizing it.  Athero- refers to a deposit of something, in this case on your arteries; sclerotic means hard.  So "atherosclerotic" is talking about plaque:  a hard deposit.

The woman who did your intake was probably thinking of Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) when she started babbling about a hole in your heart.  ASD is something completely different from what you have.  I think you can just let go of what she said and go back to being happy about your new program for a healthy lifestyle.
