x-ray results

The following are the results of my X-ray last April 2008:

1. Both lung fields are clear
2. Heart is not enlarged
3. Aortic knob is tortous.
4. Hilar markings are not accentuated
5. Diaphragm, Sinuses, and Bony Thoracic are intact

IMPRESSION: TORTOUS AORTA

Is this a serious problem.
Am I still going to pass a Pre-employment Medical Examination despite this?

Thanks!

For a perspective. Tortuous aorta indicates that the aorta is twisted or distorted in some way. This may be a result of many different factors, genetic or otherwise, but it is commonly associated with hypertension and reduced blood flow from a narrowing of the aorta, also called coarctation. Physical changes in the spine and chest wall may also contribute to this.

This condition may further lead to hypertension (high blood pressure), aortic insufficiency, cystic medial necrosis, or premature atherosclerosis. Worst case scenario.  Do you have high blood pressure?

If you don't have any problems as a result of the condition, there shouldn't be any limitation to activities.  If there were a problem, the left ventricle would be enlarged.
