hi, it's a scary situation, but my friend has been on 100%pacemaker for the past 25 years and he is still doing well. he just follow the doc orders.
My understanding is that anyone who has a pacemaker or ICD is routinely monitored. They can interrogate the device with that donut thing placed over the unit and see what's been going on with your heart and also find out how much battery power is left. When the battery reaches a certain low level, they schedule you to have the unit replaced. Obviously, the more often the pacer is used, the sooner you'll have to have it replaced. My Dad's unit lasted about 5 years. Pacing full time like yours would probably be sooner. Just like a flashlight - the more you use it, the sooner the batteries run down. But in the case of pacers, they don't wait till it stops completely. That could be a big problem.
I am not an expert, but seeing no response in over 12 hours I'll offer the following. 100% pacemaker dependent says to me one has to be very careful about protecting the pacemaker and its ability to run (battery, other?).
We are all dependent on our heart beating or face sudden death. For those pacemaker dependent that means (to me) the pacemaker has to keep running.
If you have not been given detailed instructions on what to watch out for or stay away from you should seek this information from the professional who installed/prescribed the pacemaker.
