Any Suggestios for SVT and meds

I have svt for over 25+ years. Inderal 20mg once a day was working. For what ever reason it is not working. Now uped it to 30-40mg a day and is not working. It is no longer doing what it is suppose to be doing. My GP with cardiac background but not certified sent me to cardiologist. He put me on flecainide 1 twice a day. I took one at 12 noon Saturday. Heart rate was definitely slower. Did not like the feeling but difficult to explain.I did not take my evening dose because felt to slow and did not like how I was feeling. Standing up was 78. That is good. I get rates of 140's,160's etc. At 3AM rate was in 50's. 4:30AM my rate was 48. Took a shower at 11:30 Sunday morning at it was 186. This is the fastest it has ever been.
I called the cardiologist Monday Am and was told he would be in in the afternoon and would give him the message. No call back Monday. No call back Tuesday. Wednesday I put out garbage and it is 168. Feel real crappy.   I call again. They say they will find someone for me to give my message to. She lays the phone down. I can hear her take care of scheduling and billing. Then it sounds like she is telling her daughter on another phone to stop whining. I hang up after waiting 10 minutes. No call back Thursday. What do I do?

My svt is always in the 130-170 range, I take Propanolol for it.  I've been on it for 5 years, but so far it's been working.  I did talk to one of the cardiologists nurses once who said that it's kind of 50-50% on them working long term tho.  Half of the people can live with it, the other half will stop responding to meds and need the ablation.
I would definetely be getting a referal to a new cardiologist though.  I hope you feel better.

"It sounds like it is time for a new cardiologist. "

Yes, definitely!  Flecainide, Atenolol are often prescribed along with the aforementioned Metoprolol.  I was on various dosages of Metoprolol for 6 years, but found it to be ineffective in preventing SVT episodes which happened about 3-5 time per month.  At one point, I was on 200mg which is a pretty large dose.   The med did make them earier to convert.  I no longer experience SVT since my ablation, but still take a 50mg dose of Metoprolol to keep the BP in line.

Are you sure this is SVT?  Do they start and stop abruptly?  The reason I ask is rate of 140-160 are below what you'd typically find with SVT.  Even 186 is on the lower end.  Average rate usually run from 200-250, depending on  respiration rate when it started.

I hope you can get a resolution.  I'd find another cardiologist.  It this is indeed SVT, it isn't good to be in it for 3 days.

have you tried metoprolol? that is a great medication for svt. if you are not anxious, and your heart rates are out of control and you are symptomatic, you could go to the ER. what does it feel like when your heart rate hits 186?
