Atenolol

Last night I woke up about 3:30 am and checked my blood pressure.  It was 104/66, which is kind of low for me.  I take 25 mg atenolol at 6 pm every day for IST.  Sometimes my blood pressure can run a little high.  I worked out that night, lifted light weights for 1/2 hour.  I have been working out a lot recently, using Heart Zones training.  Today, I worked out at lunch for 20 minutes, got my heart in target heart range of 127-135 with a high of 148 for a minute.  I got back to work and felt kind of light headed and rush of adrenalin, sweated a little bit.  Just feeling kind of light headed this afternoon and called cardiologist, but have not received phone cak back (this was about one hour ago).  I would like to come off of this atenolol.  I was thinking about taking 3/4 tablet and seeing how I feel.  Anybody got any helpful advice.  Thanks.

Thank you both for your responses.  I talked to a PA or nurse at my cardiologist's office this afternoon and he said to stay on the same dose.  He said as long as blood pressure does not go below 100 systolic or 60 diastolic, I should be okay.  This does get pretty frustrating.  Just as I seem to be making progress, something else happens.  Just about two months ago, I was having some high blood pressures.  But lately, learning from experience, I readjusted my exercise and have been bringing down blood pressure lately.  My resting heart rate has not come down that much, however at work HR did get down to 75 in the afternoon.  I have lost about 17 lbs since last summer and would like to lose at least 10-15 more.  Thank you all for your support and I will offer mine when I can.

When you speak to your doctor ask him what he thinks (or she).  I only take a 1/4 tablet of metoprolol and that works fine, but I started on 1/2 tablet.  That may not sound like much, but I have low BP and a fainting disorder, so the 1/2 tablet nearly zombified me.  Dropping your prescription by 1/4 tablet shouldn't be a problem, but surely check with your doctor first.

Good luck.
