Atenolol

Hey everyone!Well I have been on atenolol on and off for the past 8 years...I was talking to my new cardio on the phone a week ago about how my blood pressure is still pretty high when I check it..and my heart rate will shoot up from time to time..He told me to increase my atenolol.Normally I take 50 in the day and 50 at night(however honestly I cut the night dosage to 25 because i kept having bigemeny)..It worked and I dont have it anymore:) Well he said to take 100 mill in the day and 50 at night!Im going to be honest..I did not do that..I have an appointment with him tomorrow to discuss my event monitor results and Im going to be honest and tell him that I didnt follow his instructions.I really want help for the problems im having but im sorry I know what happend when I was taking the 50 mill at night!!!!!!!!It wasnt pretty!I want my blood pressure lower..but at what cost?I hope I can get some answers tomorrow...besides him just giving me more of the SAME medicine...RN Rita if you read this can you shed some light about what I can suggest. My appoinment is at 10am tomorrow..I hope this gets to you or someone in time..Im all for medicine IF it helps...but Im not sure if its because ive taken it for so long off and on and thats why it doesnt work that great for me or what???I also dont get why he wouldnt maybe try something else???It ***** because he really doesnt know my history and what he does know,it seems like he chooses to ignore because he hasnt seen it (nsvt).

Nope, not on vacation.  I worked twelve hours yesterday and the day before and am BEAT!  Just tell him that you do not want to increase to that level of this medication because you've been there and it made you feel terrible. I am not too sure he would believe that it brought on bigeminy, but I believe you!!!!  It made mine worse, at times.  Ask him if there is another beta blocker you could try.  Maybe metoprolol or acebuterol. Tell him, you are concerned of your blood pressure and breakthrough high HR ( I take extra if I get that), but that your experience with higher doses is just not something you want to repeat!

Hi Jules, I think our RN Rita is on vacation already, you can send her a note and she might answer, or you can ask Dolfiner, she is just as knowledgeable.
