Can pneumonia trigger an irregular heart beat?

My 48 year old husband who is the picture of health, got pneumonia in August of this year. It took him 3 rounds of antibiotics and steroids to get rid of it and has started having an irregular heartbeat since then.
Doctors thought is was the steroid making his heart beat faster, but continues after going off of the steroids.
His resting heartbeat is about 32
He has been to many doctors, a cardiologist twice now, is wearing a heart monitor for the second time and has gone to the emergency room once when he woke up in the middle of the night and the right side of his face was numb. He stayed in the emergency room for 7 hours, they did EKG, CT scan, all sorts of stuff and concluded that he is super healthy and fine.
He does not feel fine. I think there must be a link between the pneumonia and the heart problem. I have googled this and found some articles that connect the dots on this. He wakes up at night and feels that his heart is almost beating out of his chest, I have laid on his chest and head it myself. It is irregular.
He has had a heart scan where they check all of the arteries and make sure they are clear, everything comes back clear. I am wondering if he has some sort of lesion on his heart that was caused by the virus.
He is still pushing his cardiologist hard, but when you walk in and everything looks great and you seem to be the picture of health, hard to have people give you much attention.
My main question is.. if there is some sort of damage from the pneumonia, is there a way to treat the irregular heartbeat other than a pacemaker. I know it is a broad question, but any  information would help. Thank you.

The only thing I can think of is the viral infection also got into heart muscle?  Antibiotics can't help with a virus.  It might just settle down slowly over time.

If the muscle is OK, and blood flow is good, there isn't much they can do for it.   If the heart is still pumping efficiently medical people won't pay much attention to it.

Heart arrhythmia in an otherwise normal heart is a messed up thing, I've been through it and there is no treatment that I found to be effective.  There are some "anti-arrhythmic" drugs they can try but I personally found them to have side effects worse than the palps.

I know what he going through, worst time of my life living through that.

A lot of people who get these flares will eventually settle down, even to have the issue vanish.  Sometimes it comes back.    the medical community has no idea why.   All they can offer are some anti-arrhytmic druges (there are quite a few different classes) or if there's an exact spot on the heart causing the issues they can try to burn the spot via ablation cath.
