Hi, when I was 21 yrs old and very healthy and active, I was moving a loveseat from one room to the other by myself. I am a 47 yr. old female by the way. All of a sudden my heart rate jumped to about 180 - 200 bpm. I freaked out and called my Dr. He said to lay down flat on my back and take a couple of deep breaths, if that didn't work he told me to cough or press down with my abdomen muscles like I was haveing a bowel movement. If any of these worked to stop the racing, it most likely wasn't anything to freak out about. Mine did stop pretty quick after laying down flat and breathing heavily. I made an appoinment and he did an EKG then sent me for an echocardiogram, then to a Cardiologist. I wore a monitor for 48 hours and it turned out I have Mitral Valve Prolapse which isn't too serious but you do need to know if you have it. SOOOOOO get to your Dr. and tell him what is going on and if he doesn;t suggest a monitor of EKG or echo, request to see a cardio. Anything serious should be ruled out. Later in life (at age 45) I had another problem arise which I ad to get a cardiac ablation done to get rid of a racing heart of 215 (which wouldn't go away the regular way). Please have it checked out! And keep us posted.

That sounds very similar to my situation. He should see a cardiologist so they can rule out other heart issues and to confirm if he has an electrical issue. I just went through 6 years of isolating my issue which was a form of SVT.
