Fast Resting Heart Rate

I am a female and I am 19 years and 9 months old and fairly healthy, besides the fact that I do smoke. I've noticed that my heart rate is rather fast, all the time. I frequently check it and it is usually between 140-180 BPM. This is when I am resting..I have yet to check it when I have been active. Is this normal? Or should I be concerned?

Hello, well to be honest 140-180 BPM while your resting is extremely fast, and I would recommend going to see your family doctor as soon as possible. If you end up feeling any tightness or and discomfort what so ever (including palpitations...kinda like a flip flop feeling or and irregular heart rythm), don't think twice about going to the ER. Usually the normal Heart Rate is 60-100 at rest....and your 140-180 would be more likely doing a high cardio workout. My advice, go see a doctor very soon! Drop me a line anytime, Kane.
