yes my total chol is usually under 200.
i was going to ask what causes Afib, Atrial flutter, and heart block
i guess what I'm asking is could these skipped beats be indicative of an electrical impulse problem in my heart like heart block, aflutter, afib
i realize a blockage problem could lead to ischemia which can damage the SA node which can cause probelms in the atria, or the ventrical node and have ventrical impulse issues. the MD does not think this likely in my case.
i think he wants to rule out blockage with the stress test, and ruled out valve or heart muscle damage with the stress test
but what about electrical issues independent of blockage/valve problems. what causes them?
in other words can u have afib, aflutter, heart block with no CAD, no muscle or valve damage?
Sounds like you are in good shape to me, and I assume the 200 number is for your total LDL+HDL+TGL/5, not the count for your LDL.
I recommend keeping a watch on the leaky mitral valve, maybe an echocardiogram every 5 years would be a good practice. If it leaks too much it can cause an enlargement of the left atrium chamber which can cause atrial fibrillation.
A stress test could be good, but don't get worried if it comes out badly. In my experience some of us, me, have problems with stress test results when there is no underlying problem. The only problem I know of that the stress test can uncover is blockage in the heart arteries, a condition that needs to be corrected. Again, even a poor result in the stress test may mean nothing...hope it goes well, that's even better.
thanks for your reply here's more
my resting HR is low 60's, my BP is 110/70 can be lower, when I felt the skips via my radial or apical pulse it was just after exercise - HR was coming down but still in the 120 range
my labs are usually good except my HDL is never high, only during my pregnancies is my LDL over 200, triglycirides always low
went to cardiologist today, he said i have no risk factors - no smoking, no chest pain, no syncope, only family hx is my mom's father and my mom's brother who had early heart disease (40's) - they both died by 65
he did echo - was normal, ejection fraction was 69%, trace leak in mitral valve but considered normal
he set up a stress test on the 21st, if that is normal then he said no more tests - the palp would be benign - if stress shows something - then maybe a 64 slice CAT, or nuclear stress test
what do u think. thanks
There is nothing in what you say that raises any "alarm" in my mind relative to heart rhythm problems.
If the skips in the heart continue consider getting a check-up with your doctor. If you post again on this provide more information such as: rest HR, BP, HR when the skips occur, any shortness of breath or dizziness should also be shared if there's to be a chance for one of us to relate our experience with your symptoms.
