Heart irregular

I recently was In the hospital for test on my heart and was going to have an eblation done n my hear for tachycardia, of course my heart would not act up the day of so it couldn't be done. I took toproyl for years and was changed to atenolol 25 mg... I have told my heart doctor many times that heat seems to be what set my heart off the most....leading up to my hospital stay, anytime I used the blow dryer on my hair my heart would get out of rhythm so bad that I would have to drop and not move for fear of passing out...
Even now, if I get to hot in the shower or outside my heart gets out of rhythm....not as bad as it use to but it still does it...I hate the feeling and I hate having tovworry about it happening.. I never know for sure when it will happen.
I would like to know why does heat trigger it for me?

Hello,

Please look into Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). It is a very unheard of nervous system disorder that prevents the body from being able to properly adjust to the pull of gravity. Therefore, symptoms arise, such as: rapid heart rate upon standing, low or high blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, sweating, anxiety-like symptoms, headaches, shortness of breath, inability to exercise, digestion problems, etc. The symptoms are endless and vary person to person day to day. Very few doctors are familiar with this illness and often misdiagnose patients.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Best wishes,
Brandi

Thank you Michelle.... I had no idea there were different types of tachycardia. I am due back in her office in October, I will be sure to ask.
At this point I'm not sure if she will try to change my medication or what.

Everyone is different and has different triggers.  Heat is obviously a part of yours.  Maybe it is a drop in bp when you get overheated that is doing it.  I know my dad gets afib when he gets overheated.  I had an accessory pathway svt that was triggered by pvcs though most are triggered by pacs.  So I could see a combination with you as well.  You get overheated causing pvcs thus triggering an svt episode though I don't know that a person with an svt would require a defibrillator so it may be that the pvcs themselves turn into vt when you get overheated.  It is a shame that the tachycardia was active the night before but settled down for the ablation.  It is possible the sedation settled you down too much.  Did your doctor ever tell you what type of tachycardia he was trying to treat?  Anyways the heart is a complex muscle and different things trigger people in different ways but I don't believe it is unheard of that getting overheated is a trigger.  It sounds like you may need to dry your hair on the low/cool setting until you get this resolved.  I might also take cooler showers as well.  Hang in there.  I send prayers your way that you are able to get this resolved at some point.  Take care.

P.S pvc just means premature ventricular contraction and if I'm not mistaken it wouldn't make your heart speed up to 170.

tachycardia just means "fast heart rate" did the cardiologist diagnose it was svt, sinus, atrial fibrillation? I mean what was the reason for the fast heart rate?

Yes I wore the monitor and that was the reason I landed in the hospital in hopes of having the eblation. Actually the night before while in the hospital my heart was racing up in the low 170's, the nurses pretty much hung out in my room that night. Two weeks prior to going in the hospital I wore the vest.... Basically outside defibrillator.

Wow that's weird, I have never heard of using "hot" appliances would make your heart out of rhythm. I can see the hot shower maybe causing your blood pressure to decrease. Have you had a holter monitor or an event monitor put on? That might indicate what is going on if you have an episode while wearing one. Did they say it was just fast or fast and slow? What did the hospital diagnose it as?
