Heart palpitations and stabbing heart pain, please help?

I've been having heart palpitations since Halloween 09 it come along with fear of dying and high anxiety, the first 2 times it happened to me I took an ambulance to the hospital thinking the worst....they told me i was having panic attacks and prescribed me anti depressants and lorazapam ,  I stopped taking the depressants 2 months ago now because of not believing it was panic attacks I was having and continued to take lorazapam, then I started having some other symptoms, not at the same time as the palpitations but I have chest pain and I get stabbing pain going right through my heart, I have a echo cardiogram and it came back normal but I am still in disbelief, I went tot the gym with a girlfriend and 10 mins on the elliptical machine I was having the stabbing heart pain, I also have shortness of breath, heavy chest and it feels like my heart is working harder than normal, cough, my Dr. doesn't think there is anything wrong but had made me an apt to see a cardiologist anyways at the end of this month, I'm 28 years old and have 2 children and my husband is military and going over sea at the end of April, I'm terrified that I'm going to die, and I'm searching in the mean time for some sort of answers to help me but I don't really know what I'm looking for, please help!

I stopped going to the gym after that happened, And also have been staying away from caffeine, Chocolate, the kids keep me busy but as soon but as soon evening comes this is when most things happen, I started a daily diary on feb 5th, I had some really bad chest pain yesterday evening, trying to take it one day at a time, it's so frustrating to wait for apts. I've been pushing for testing for this and that since Nov and I feel like I'm getting no where but finally I get to see a cardiologist and I can't wait! I'm not really worried about the hubby going to the ghan, I'm more worried that something will happen to me while he is gone if I don't get this problem fixed before he goes, I have no one here for help, I'm totally on my own with the kids so I don't even know what I would do with my children if I had to go to the hospital, so hopefully I will get some answers on the 22nd of this month!  Thanks Cindy for your input :)

Hey Tara i read your post tonite....sounds to me like a little bit of anxiety going on as well as some other health issues.  First off listen to your body and back away from the gym until your appt  w. the heart doc and until you get a clean bill of health from them...you have a family don't take the chance until you know for sure.;  Its normal when you have palps to have a fear of dying we all go thru that and believe me it will pass as soon as you get reassurance from a professional.  Sometimes when we cough it is the hearts normal trigger telling us that our electrical activity of the heart needs to be re set and that is how it happens,,,,unvoluntarily a cough out of no where make sure you tell the doc at your appt.  As far as what you should look for believe me the human body will let you know......your situation is pretty broad spanned so until a doc sees you we could go thru everything until the cows come home and you really still won't know until the tests are done.  In most cases you can trust your heart doc....take what he/she says and be sure to ask them what they are going to do about it or what you need to do. Don't be walking around in doom waiting for an ax to fall. Like all of the other posts just take care of you until the appt...good sleep at nite, lessen your stress, stay away from caffeine and chocolate and especially energy drinks...age is on your side i think maybe you just need all of the answers especially in light of the fact of worry about your husband leaving and the responsiblity that you'll be taking on.  Keep yourself busy until the appt. so you don't think about this....the worst time for any of us is at rest....get a journal type of book and write down everything that you feel between now and the appt. to ask the heart doc about and then use the last page to write down your worst fears in regards to your heart and ask those questions too..keep telling yourself that this time next month you'll have all of the answers and that should help......keep the faith.....
