I am perplexed with new problem - PVC's and VT
I started having frequent PVC's (3 or 4 in one minute) after being on a beta-blocker for 3 days. I stopped the beta-blocker but continued having the PVC's for a couple of weeks. Then I had non-sustained VT on a treadmill test. I have different opinions from two EP's: One EP said a 60% chance of curing it with ablation, or I could use a calcium channel blocker, the other thought I had a 0% chance of finding it with ablation, although we could try it.
He mentioned trying beta blockers. In the meantime I was put on Lexapro for anxiety by another doctor because of my anxiety over this. This seems to have helped with some of the PVC's.
I am perplexed. I have had other treadmill tests in the past, all normal, and I very rarely had PVC's until recently. Now this!
I had a cardiac MRI and echocardiagram, normal, and a heart catherization showing 20% blockage.
Neither of the EP's has given me a diagnosis. The second EP has turned me back over to my cardiologist - I see him next week.

I am just very anxious over these new happenings in my health and another doctor thought the Lexapro might help. I was actually having chest pains too, and now the chest pains have disappeared and the PVC's are not as often since I started them. They are helping me cope - not as stressed. I really was not depressed so much I don't think, but I was about to climb the wall. This makes me so nervous. I saw my EP for the second treadmill about a week ago and he should have noticed them on my record. Just in case he didn't I will point out that I am taking them.
I DIDN'T go into VT this time on the treadmill, just frequent PVC's. I am wondering if the Lexapro helped with that.
I have read that if you tend to get the PVC's, sometimes stress can cause them to be worse.
I do want to point out too, I had to take some pain medication for a strained muscle in my neck recently. I took Oxycodone (I had a few left over from the past). I felt a little strange and checked my pulse. It was beating extremely fast for a few seconds, probably VT I am thinking. Just thought I would pass that along.

Not sure what class Lexapro is in, but please be aware. Antidepressants can effect the heart rythm, but of course everyone is different and will or will not be effected differently. My cardiologist warned me strongly to avoid antidepressants....obviously if you are suicidal or can not function, then the risks are worth it..but have your cardioloigst monitor you for changes.
