Irregular heartbeat. What are the causes?

Hello . I am having an irregular heartbeat for some time now. I'm going to see a electrophysiologist soon. My question is what medical conditions cause irregular beats. Also what is the best method of treatment and also, can thyroid disorders cause this also. Thank you

That is the million dollar question.  Know one really knows for sure and it likely is a number of factors.  The biggest triggers are stress/anxiety, dehydration, stomach issues like acid reflux and gerd and caffeine.  Thyroid disorders usually present with a fast beat as opposed to an irregular beat.  Unforutnately unless you are having upwards of 10s of thousands of them a day the main course of action is to avoid the triggers and some take a low dose beta blocker.  Ablations for ectopics isn't something that is practiced often because it can do more harm than good but if you are having an excessive amount that is putting strain on your heart than an ablation may be the best option to preserve the health of your heart.  So how many ectopic beats do you think you are having a day?  Do you have any other symptoms?  It is good you are seeing a doctor to get evaluated.  You may need to wear a monitor to try and track what your heart is doing.   Keep us posted on what they say.

Thank you so much. I have had an irregular beat for some time now. I have been to a cardiologist, but he is sending me to a cardio who specializes in the heart rhythm. I do have lots of dizziness also. Sometimes my heart is pounding, sometimes beating very slow, and sometimes it's flipping all over the place. My ekg is always abnormal, but my other testing holtor monitor, echocardiogram, nuclear stress test, are all good. I have no clue what kind of irregular beat I have. I will definitely let you kno what they say and what happens.also I am under lots of stress which I know don't help...:(
