The only way to get answers is to go to a pediatric cardiologist and find out what type of defect is causing the regurgitation. I was born with a rare mitral valve congenital defect that caused severe regurgitation all my life. I just had it repaired in July and I am 39 years old. Also, go to Cleveland Clinic's website or other professional sites and research it. But every case is unique and you need to know the details of your son's condition first.
Hi Valeed,
I am not a doctor, and the doctors do not post responses on this particular forum. There are a few "expert" heart forums (scroll down, right side of your screen). Each expert forum accepts a limited number of questions per day. Try posting on the interventional cardiology forum or the heart disease forum. If the posting limit has been reached, you can continue to try each day.
This forum is for dialogue between patients, caregivers, friends, family, etc.
I'm sorry you are going through such a tough time not knowing what is going on with your son. Congenital means "at birth." Moderate MR is moderate mitral valve regurgitation. This means that your son's heart valve is leaky some blood backwards. It is normal for our blood to flow in one direction, but sometimes there are weaknesses in the valves and the blood will backflow a little.
I've had the same condition for many years, but I did not have it as a child so I'm not sure of the significance of your son's MR. At the very least, I'm sure the doctor will suggest further monitoring to be sure the valve does not worsen. What has the cardiologist said with regard to followup and/or treatment?
