PVC's?

I was diagnosed with PVC's a couple of years ago. The interesting thing is they discovered a mass in my small intestine around the same time and gave me the diagnosis of Crohns after that was biopsied. Since that surgery, the PVC's pretty much stopped or at least weren't coming as often or as bad as they were at that time. I still think there's a connection there but that's another story.
The thing I've noticed lately is that they've been coming back. I chalk a lot of it up to lack of sleep, too much caffeine or being dehydrated so I don't worry about it too much. Although I've also been having more digestive issues lately too. I still think there's a connection.
However, I got to wondering about something I've noticed and wanted to ask you all if this is normal. I'm a light sleeper and tend to toss and turn sometimes. I've noticed that many times when I go to turn over my heart starts kind of racing when I do this. I really can't figure that one out. Is this something I should be concerned about or is this part of having PVC's?
My mom has heart disease so I do try to be watchful but not paranoid. Thanks!

I have MVP with regurgitation....which is no big deal...until easter of this year....when I woke up and had the normal 'fluttering' in my chest from the MVP but this time the irregular beats didn't stop all day.....later that nite I went to the e.r. and when they hooked me up to the heart monitor they saw the irregular beats and diagnosed me with 'pvc's and told me to see a cardiologist as soon as possible and they gave me a prescription for atenolol, which I take every nite......I don't have insurance or the money to see a cardiologist....and am scared to death that I'm going to drop dead of a heart attack or stroke....I'm 46 years old and have a 7 year old daughter that needs her mommy to be around for a long time...I get so scared when the pvc's happen....it takes my breath away....I do have lots of trouble with my colon and female organs....not sure if that's related. Basically I'm a mess with NO way to get the help I need so desperately...If anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate it...so would my little girl. Thank you, Tracey

Well, I'm somehow convinced that the pvc's issues are mainly caused by the vagus nerve. Even cardiologists accept the link with vagus nerve and heart issues! Simply said, the vagus nerve runs from the stomach up the brain, and is also connected the heart (very simply said I think). So, if that nerve gets irritated by acid (food), or when we are anxious/tired/stressed, etc, pvc's are the result with us skippers. I've said this several times on this forum, but I am truly convinced that - in my case anyway - this makes more sense to me than thinking something is wrong with my heart only. Because if that was the case, why do I mainly have these skips when eating the wrong food/drinking coffee, alcohol, etc? I also used to suffer from this "turning in bed, then suddenly have the racing heart"-syndrome. Well, think about it. At night, you are digesting (possibly a heavy meal), all is more or less ok, then you suddenly turn, acid moves up your esophagus and woops, irritation galore, heart starts racing. I might be completely wrong, but hey, here I am, taking magnesium and new: fishoil, and things have calmed down for me considerably. Maybe the fish oil creates a barrier in my stomach or somehow affects the acid, I do not know. I might be wrong with all of this, but it's what I've experiences over the years, that have led me to believe in this theory rather strongly. Do watch what you eat and drink, and maybe try the fish oil/magnesium thing. And find our your triggers and avoid them as much as possible. It's an awful feeling those pvc's, I wish we'd find a cure for good!

It could be related to the digestive stuff going on, I don't know. I know my mom has heart disease and she's not that old so that does worry me a bit. She's already had 5 stints put in her heart and should have had a bypass but she's diabetic and they can't do that. God help her if she ever needs that or a heart transplant. I don't know what would happen. I don't really want to think about it!

Something else I was wondering. Today I had coffee and a dessert (so a double whammy with the caffeine and sugar!) and my heart was really acting up today after that. I don't do that too often but that doesn't harm anything, to have too much caffeine, etc., does it? I mean, besides it just being uncomfortable, it doesn't harm my heart when it starts racing, etc., right?

Hmm very interesting points here, thanks as I am also searching for a connection to anything that may be the cause of my craziness lol

I have noticed that when I lay or sleep certain ways mine get alot worse and sometimes so bad to where I can't breathe.   I have to hold my breath just to get back to my "normal abnormal" :P

I have had pvc's - 24/7 for so long now (6mths - 1 year straight)  I'm ready to find the answers even if they have to probe every part of my body to find it hehehe and give these 54,000 extra beats to someone who needs them...

Hi April.  You mentioned you have been having more digestive issues lately.  I've experienced PVCs for approx. 12 yrs. but received the diagnoses about 2 yrs. ago. when I went to the emergency room due to having a stomach problem / bleeding caused by two rounds of prescribed antibiotics treating a tooth abcess.  The PVCs became unrelenting during that time as well as a racing heart from time to time.

It has been my experience that stomach issues do affect my symptoms of PVCs and heart rate in my case, as well as menstral cycle, not sleeping well, being anxious, etc.

Could it be time for your doctor to give you a checkup, to look into the digestive issue again to see what may be going on?  It may help put your mind at ease and given the proper line of treatment that could be helpful in providing you with relief.

Keep us posted.

Blessings

Hi! Sounds like you have alot in common with some of us here.
I get the racing heartbeat when I roll over at times and was told by my Cardio that it is usually a postural related increase in sympathetic tone. Bending over, rolling over, and leaning back can all cause the same reaction. (I even get runs of PVC's at times with the racing heart) According to my doc, in a healthy heart, it too, is considered completely benign as long as the heartrate slows down again. (I've had the postural sinus tachy last several hours before slowing)

PS... I also agree that digestive issues and PVC's are connected, as does my Cardio.
