Pre=existing Condition

I am on Metoprolol for arythmia condition. Would that possibly be a pre-existing condition if I had to qualify for new insurance? In other words, if I later had a stroke, could that be excluded?

I agree with boater08 on this. I have recently had to get an individual policy, that was "pre-existing" . However, the prior "group" policies did not consider this. Just my experience, don't write it in stone.

I do know that the government has some new laws in effect in Jan 09, concerning riders and pre-existing conditions. I know they can't put a rider in effect for the entire length of an individual policy, they can put one on a condition up to 5 years but, I think it goes, 1 year, 3 year or 5 year............that's good news for me anyway. I got this from the rep we have for our individual policy.

The answer to that question depends on different factors. A lot depends on if you are applying for group insurance for an employer or for individual insurance. I believe qualifying for group insurance, depeding on the company you work for, does not usually require you to have to disclose pre-existing conditions, whereas individual insurance will. I could be wrong about that. I know that when I've applied for insurance through my work, they don't ask those questions and when I was added on to my husband's plan, they never asked about pre-existing conditions. Good luck getting insurance! All the more reason we need the government to take the side of the patients and not the insurance companies!

I also have not had a problem with changing insurance and my metoprolol was not considered a pre-existing. But only because I had been taking it for longer than 6 months.

I would definitly say that you should call your rep or ask human resources at your job what they consider pre-existing

Hope this helps

Hello...

I think the best advice I can offer you is to see what they consider a pre-existing condition. You may want to call a Rep. at the insurance company and ask that question.

If I had to guess, I'd say "no" only because my families coverage has changed 3 different times since my diagnoses and I have been covered 100% fir eveything from medications, ablation procedures, diagnostic testing etc.

Good luck:)
