Skipping heart beat.

Hello,

My name is Luke and I have currently had symptons of skipping heart beat. About 6 weeks ago my heart started skipping a beat, leading to a thud in my throat and a pound in my chest when it starts the next beat.
I have been drinking a fair bit of alchohol in the past 4 months and my normal caffeine, both of which I have tamed off...almost completlely off coffee, and cut down alchohol.

I went to a doctor and took an e.c.g which was normal, as during the stage of taking it, my heart wasnt skipping. (it comes on randomly).

I do notice slight aching in the left side of my chest and I have noticed this for years, I do not know if it is muscular from training or not, but I am worried because it is always on the left side.

Today my heart was consitently skipping a beat every minute for almost 2 hrs, then calmed off.

Can you please give me some advice to clear the air, as I am quite concerned and dont understand why this has come on all of a sudden. Do I need to go cold turkey on alchohol and caffeine? I am concerned.

Thanks

Hi Luke. The only way for a doctor to know what the symptoms are that you are feeling, is to monitor your heart. You need to ask your doctor for a holter test that you wear around and will record your heart. If it does not happen every day, then you will need a 30 day monitor but if you feel it every day, then a 24 hour on will work. Take care. :)
