Taking beta blocker in morning or evening?

I screwed up taking my medications about a week ago.  I was getting ready to go to bed, grabbed a pill bottle and ended up taking my beta blocker instead of my lipitor.  My mind was a million miles away and I realized what I had done as soon as I swallowed it but it was too late.  I had been taking my beta blocker in the morning.  So instead of taking another beta blocker in the morning I waited and took it in the evening.  I am on once daily dosing.  Since then I have taken it in the evening.  Should switching from morning to evening dosing effect anything?  I have noticed in the evening now before time for my pill, my heart seems to be beating faster, checked tonight and it was 87.  Know that isn't tachy but I'm used to it being in the 70s.  Guess that is just because the meds are wearing off?  Shouldn't matter when I take it, right?

I'm thinking I may leave it at night.  I have sleep apnea and can't tolerate CPAP throughout the night, I usually end up with the mask lying next to me.  I know the apnea episodes cause increased heart rate and BP.  So maybe I'm better off at night.  Thanks for the replys.

i agree with Jerry_NJ it depends on your beta blocker, there are different types which only last for hours or for a day. as for me taking beta blockers every morning was better before you start the day and doing activities. if you take it before bed usually when youre resting your heart gets lower by itself so i guess you dont really need it unless if you had a nightmare or arrhythmia which happens suddenly. i guess its ok for you to switch back but if youre not then its fine too. whatever works best for you.

If your prescription says to take once a day, it must be an extended or slow release formulation.  That being the case it shouldn't make any difference when you take it.

Still, I have had advice that taking a BB before bedtime is better because it gives one the full BB strength during the time they are asleep and that adds to the rest the heart gets, slower heart rate.

On the other hand, the emotional stress of the day (assuming one doesn't suffer from night mares) may make morning the best time.  Again, I think it doesn't matter.

I take the regular release BB and thus take one in the morning and one before bedtime.  Each of these is 1/2 the strength of the slow release I used to take.  The regular release is much lower cost and that's the reason I changed to that formulation.
