What exactly is a "heart pause?"

I think this is happening to me....if I take a deep breath...my heart feels like it's pausing...beat(deep breath)....beat beat beat....sometimes the pause becomes so exaggerated....that I wonder if it's going to start beating in a normal sinus rhythm....scares the blankety blank outta me!!!
My cardiologist has seen this on an echo but said I must have been using the bathroom....whatever....but he didn't seem to concerned....why not??
What causes this and is my heart actually pausing......

Your doctor is probably thinking you are doing a vagal maneuver which we do when we go to the bathroom.  We "bear down."  This causes the heart to slow down by increasing intra-thoracic pressure.  They actually teach you this for SVT or tachycardia.  This particular maneuver is called Valsalva.  Anyway, when you take a deep breath, you are also increasing intra-thoracic pressure so your body slows your heart down temporarily.  This is normal.  Most people who are not conscious of their hearts, like we are, never even feel this!
