Palpitations

I just read on the other site that 5% of a person's heartbeats would be ectopic??  That would amount to around 100 a day would it not?  I get maybe 20 skips or fluttery sensations throughout the day and can't stand that!  Does everyone out there really get these ectopics?  I started noticing mine a couple of years ago and I have been stressed lately (marriage on the rocks) and have been getting them every couple of hours and am freaked out!  Do you believe that everyone gets these things??

That's not good....he's got a lot going on that he doesn't even realize or acknowledge.  He could be headed for a disaster if he doesn't straighten up and take care of himself.  Young people do take their health for granted...think they are invinsible.  There are a few who are vigilant like you and do all the right thing healthwise. Part of your issue is probably anxiety about what is going on with him. I know that's nerve-wracking for you.  Have you two been together for a long time?  You can do all the right things and still get get these ectopics.  Dr.s generally don't want to give you something for them unless they become dibilitating.  It might helk you both if you had a wrist BP monitor to check your rates from time to time.  It would help your bf get more in touch with what is reakky going on with his body.  I wish you the best.

hi, he's 28, but i'll also say he had a very bad addiction to cocaine 5 years ago until i found out i was pregnant and made him choose baby or drugs? high bp runs in his family too and they are overweight too, whereas mine all have low bp and good weight, i dont want to sound big headed by saying that,  i wish he'd come swimming with me but he's got no will power, the nurse told him he's overweight and needs to lose 2 st. one night i felt like a fluttery feeling and i panicked and jumped outa bed, i told him i was getting ectopic beats and he didnt know what i was on about, he said he gets this thing when his heart races for a bit and sometimes hears his heartbeat in his head???

Palpitations, ectopics, are not uncommon and can be caused by so many things.  These energy drinks and alcohol that your bf consumes will surely catch up to him one day.  Don't know his age but I bet by the time he is in his 30's, if he keeps this up he will be experiencing these kinds od symptoms.  It's inevitable  My downfall was ephedrine which in the 90's was everywhere, in everything. I ended up with an irregular heart beat called a-fib. I never know when I'm going to get an episode which usually lasts 12-24 hrs.  Tell him that and encourage him to try and live a more healthy lifestyle.  He won't regret it and he'll thank you for it one day.

hi, ive been getting ectopics since i had a bad panic attack and went to a and e, ive had bad anxiety since very bad experience last october in childbirth well i very nearly died and i will never risk that again, but i'll cut to the chase now, get this my boyfriend/fiancee drinks 2 energy drinks a day, drinks alcohol at weekends, doesn't exercise much only his thumbs on the xbox lol, has 5 hours sleep a night and doesnt feel these awful things, now i dont drink any alcohol, i exercise everyday, dont touch energy drinks, i sleep 8hrs a night, and im the one who gets them, a nurse told me these ectopics are very common in young healthy people so does that make people who dont get them unhealthy?

I did some math. If a person averaged 65 beats a minute (but we know it often goes faster than that), 60 minutes an hour and 24 hours to a day, that would be 93,600 beats a day. And 5% of that would be 4680 beats that could be ectopic. That sounds about right for a person with a fair number of annoying ectopics. It's still not so bad that a cardio would want to step in and medicate or even consider doing an ablation.

My cardio told me that everyone gets them, just not everyone feels them.  Most people never know when their heart "skips."  There are a few "lucky" ones that feel every beat, every skipped beat, and everything else our hearts might do.  I do believe that everyone gets them b/c your heart is an electrical system.  It only makes sense that it is going to deviate from 'lub dub' every now and then.
